What are breast interventional procedures?
Breast interventional procedures include minimally invasive techniques performed on the breast under image guidance (ultrasound or mammography) to obtain tissue samples, localise lesions for surgery, or treat cysts. Their goal is to reach a definitive histological diagnosis without surgery in the vast majority of cases.
Are all breast interventional procedures outpatient?
Yes. All interventional procedures performed at CRMama are outpatient: the patient arrives, the procedure is performed, and she can return home the same day. They do not require hospital admission or general anaesthesia.
When is a breast biopsy necessary?
A biopsy is indicated when a mammogram, ultrasound or other imaging test detects a lesion classified as BI-RADS 4 or 5, or when there is a BI-RADS 3 lesion with additional risk factors. The goal is to obtain a definitive histological diagnosis to plan treatment if necessary.
How quickly are results available?
Cytological results from FNAB are available within 48-72 hours. Histological results from CNB and VAB are obtained within 5-7 working days. In cases of clinical urgency, our team coordinates with the pathologist to speed up the process.
